Buchanan's Native Plants

Buchanan’s Native Plants is a complete redesign of a WordPress site with over 10 years of content. Thousands of images, a complex menu system that was not mobile-friendly. Using Advanced Custom Fields Pro, the backend of this website provides content creators with an easy to use the template system to update content. Includes SVG icons in the menu system and lots of custom options tailored for this industry.

Remember Cliffside

Remember Cliffside is a project by the Cliffside Historical Society in North Carolina. The design of the new website was done by the creators of the original site, Betty and Reno Bailey. The original static site was built in Dreamweaver. I did all of the custom WordPress development for this custom WordPress site built with Genesis.

Getting Things Into WordPress
Moving all of that information into WordPress was an arduous job in itself. We enlisted the help of CMS2CMS to get the bulk of those files into WordPress from the static site, but there was a lot of work that remained. The process of automating the move to WordPress had limitations, especially on a site as complex as this one.

Reno and Betty worked for ten months meticulously going through each page of content, creating menus and updating PDFs and images. It was essentially rebuilding the site all over again.

The goal of all this hard work was to port this massive collection of historical data into a content management system that will make editing and adding new information in the future much easier.

Creating the Theme Architecture
My role was to build the theme architecture and then wire everything to work properly with their new site design. They wanted to maintain that vintage feel while providing visitors with good user experience on mobile and tablets too.

We used the Max Mega Menu for the main navigation. Sidebar menus were custom-built for the many sections of the site. Page navigation was added to groups of pages with a parent-child relationship.

The site is built on my own starter theme based on the Utility Pro theme running on the Genesis Framework.

Remembercliffside.com houses a massive collection of information, photographs, news clippings, and some very interesting stories about the history of this little North Carolina town.

This was definitely one of my favorite projects, and I’m very proud to be part of the team to preserve these memories for decades to come.

Squirrelgard.com

Squirrelgard.com is a complete redesign of a WordPress site that was launched five years ago. The client has been selling a unique roofing product to customers via phone and fax orders. The original site lacked any e-commerce capability.

The e-commerce capability is powered by WooCommerce with a few add-on extensions for managing shipping and tracking. Transactions are processed via Stripe.
